Germany's second largest cable operator Unitymedia wants to win new subscribers for its digital pay-TV packages through a free-to-air promotion:
From 27 September 2011, customers with a digital cable subscription will be able to watch a pay-TV channel without additional charge on a new barker channel.
Each week a new channel will be offered for a free 7-day period from the genres of series, movies, documentaries, music or sports.
The subsidiary of US-based media company Liberty Global will also boost its HDTV line-up: On 27 September 2011, Romance TV HD will launch on Unitymedia's cable network with Spiegel TV Wissen HD to follow on 4 October 2011.
Both channels will form part of pay-TV package "Digital TV Allstars HD". Further new HD channels will be added shortly, according to the Cologne-based company.
