Pascale Paoli-Lebailly ©RapidTVNews | 28-09-2011 The European Commission (EC) could declare illegal the French DTT bonus channels granted to free to air (FTA) groups TF1, M6 and Canal+.
The channels were in essence compensation for the digital switchover and the arrival of fiercely competitive new entrants in the terrestrial arena.
The channels were due to start launching after the final digital switch off in November. The decision of the EC, which had already warned France at the end of 2010, will be officially known on 29 September reports press agency AFP.
Granting bonus channels may likely fall under the criteria of being “discriminatory and non proportional” and thus contrary to the EU rules.
