Switzerland's largest cable operator UPC Cablecom will screen the latest episodes of current US prime-time series on its video-on-demand (VOD) portal as Swiss TV premiers from now on.
The line-up comprises "Grey's Anatomy" (8th series), "Private Practice" (5th series) and "Desperate Housewives" (8th and last series). The episodes are shown one week after their debut on US television in the original language version with German subtitles - long before they will appear on conventional television. Also, all series will be available in HD quality for the first time.
At the same time, the subsidiary of US media company Liberty Global will expand the technical reach of its VOD service. The platform, which contains more than 600 movies, will be rolled out to the regions of Bern and Lucerne as well as the whole Mittelland region in October. With the move, the offering will be available in the whole of German-speaking Switzerland.
As the next step, UPC Cablecom wants to gradually deploy its VOD service to the French-speaking part of Switzerland.
