Germany's second largest cable TV operator Unitymedia will expand its HDTV portfolio: From November 2011, the Liberty Global subsidiary will distribute HD versions of commercial channels Sat.1, ProSieben and kabel eins, sixx will follow next year.
The HD distribution is part of a new carriage contract which Unitymedia has signed with parent company ProSiebenSat.1. The agreement also secures continued carriage of ProSiebenSat.1's channels in standard definition while women's channel sixx will gain further analogue slots.
After Kabel BW and Kabel Deutschland, Unitymedia is the last of Germany's three large cable operators to have reached an agreement with ProSiebenSat.1 regarding HD distribution. No agreement is yet in place with competitor RTL Group.
