With concerns that Spanish Mediapro’s national private channel laSexta is not fulfilling its forecast in terms of advertising incomes due to the financial crisis, Mexican audiovisual group Televisa wants more control in it.

Currently, Televisa has 40% of shares in the broadcaster. Televisa’s president has indicated that he is open to continue diversifying his investments and to invest in telcos.

“The Spanish economic crisis which, in reality, is a worldwide one- has not helped laSexta to keep up with our expectations, although it is also true the channel is doing better than expected,” declared Emilio Azcárraga, Televisa’s president. “We are studying some possibilities to increase our participation in laSexta, so we have started talks with our partners to increase our presence in the channel’s content,” he added.

As for the economic figures, Televisa obtained net profits of $288.4 million in the first half of this year, 1% more than in the same period the previous year. At the same time, the consolidated incomes among last January and June amounted to $2,420.9 billion meaning 65% more with regard to the figure registered in the same months in 2010.

It seems Televisa is not going through any crisis at all...
