Pepe Reina: Says Liverpool blocked exit
    PEPE REINA REVEALS ARSENAL BID

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina claims the club blocked him from making a 20million move to Arsenal in the summer of 2010.
Reina admits he was tempted to leave Merseyside after returning from Spain's victorious World Cup campaign last year to find the Reds in a downward spiral.
Manager Rafa Benitez had been sacked, while director Christian Purslow was desperately seeking new owners to replace Tom Hicks and George Gillett as the club struggled under a financial crisis.
The Spaniard's head was turned by the Gunners but says Liverpool rejected their 20m bid and stopped him from making a switch to north London because they feared his exit would dissuade potential buyers.
"I went from elation one minute to depression the next as the realisation dawned that Liverpool were going nowhere fast," said Reina in his new autobiography.
"When I signed my contract in April 2010 I hoped that better times were just around the corner, a feeling that was fuelled by the promises of improvement from people at the club.
"It didn't take me long to feel that their promises were hollow. I felt betrayed. Our owners were at war with each other, the club's debts were spiralling out of control and a change in manager had failed to dispel the feeling that we were on the road to nowhere.
"Arsenal had made their determination to sign me clear by offering 20m, a phenomenal amount for a goalkeeper. Part of me felt that I was well within my rights to consider my future even if I did so with a heavy heart.
"When Liverpool received the bid, they rejected it. This was not because I had been told that I was too good a keeper to leave. The reason I was given was quite different - and it left me feeling down. I was told that my continued presence was crucial to the sale of the club. I was simply a bargaining chip in the sales process.
"I still don't know what to think of Purslow because I understand he was there to look for new owners and to try to sell the club but ultimately he was making big football decisions that he was not qualified to make."
Reina made no secret of the fact he wanted Hicks and Gillett out ahead of Fenway Sports Group's takeover of the club last October.
The 29-year-old admits he would have liked fans' favourites Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher to have joined him in getting behind the supporters' protests to oust the American owners.
"I was probably one of the loudest objectors because I believed it was important the supporters knew I was with them," he said.
"All I wanted the owners to do was sell up to people who could take the club forward, so I said so.
"The way I saw it, Stevie and Carra are the two principle members of our squad, the ones who the people love and if they had said something maybe it would have put Hicks and Gillett under real pressure.
"But in their view, it was more important to try to keep things as normal as possible."

Gary Cahill: Out of contract at Bolton next summer
REDKNAPP WON'T RULE OUT CAHILL BID

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has not ruled out making another attempt to take Bolton defender Gary Cahill to White Hart Lane in January.
Spurs failed to secure the England stopper's signature during the summer transfer window, with Trotters boss Owen Coyle revealing the only bids they received for the 25-year-old fell well short of their valuation.
But Redknapp has not given up his pursuit of Cahill, who is out of contract at the Reebok Stadium at the end of the season and could leave on a free transfer next summer.
He told the Sunday Mirror: "We were able to negotiate a deal with West Ham for (Scott) Parker, but we couldn't get a deal done for Cahill.
"That's not to say we won't try again in January. If the chairman can reach an agreement with Bolton I'd love to bring him here."
Another player to have been repeatedly linked with a move to White Hart Lane is former England captain David Beckham, who is out of contract with Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy in November.
The veteran midfielder recently revealed staying in California would be the better option for his family but he is yet to sign an extension in Los Angeles, with Paris Saint German also thought to be chasing his signature.
Speculation suggests Beckham could return to the Premier League for a loan stint at Spurs during the MLS off-season, but Redknapp has reiterated there is no agreement in place.
He said: "I'm not aware of any agreement with David. I've always had the utmost admiration for him as a player and he's a fantastic role model.
"I wouldn't rule anything in or out. The biggest problem is accommodating him in the side because I have an abundance of riches in midfield."

    Eddie Howe: Eyeing loan moves
    HOWE SET FOR LOAN SWOOP

Burnley manager Eddie Howe has revealed there could be some movement in the loan market next week.
The Clarets boss has not bolstered his squad with any temporary deals since the transfer window closed and is eager to bring in reinforcements.
A number of players have been linked with a move to Turf Moor and Howe said there could be a new arrival in the next few days, although he indicated that it may be somebody unexpected.
"It will probably be a new name and more of a squad improvement than an improvement to the team," Howe told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"It will be quiet over the weekend but there might be some movement next week."
Howe also maintained he would not be afraid to sign more players from the lower leagues, having previously recruited Charlie Austin, Marvin Bartley and Danny Ings.
"We have a very open mind," he said.
"The level of player doesn't really make much different to us, it's about how good they are as individuals."

    MONTANO BACK AT WEST HAM

West Ham have recalled striker Cristian Montano from his two-month loan spell with League One club Notts County.
The Hammers youngster moved to Meadow Lane initially for a month in August but his impressive from in Nottingham earned him an extended spell in the Midlands city.
He was selected as the West Ham's most promising youngster in 2010, before signing his first professional contract, and since impressed staff with his form at youth and reserve level.
The Colombian is comfortable down the left, as well as in attack, and made an instant impression in County colours by scoring on his home debut.

Steve Kean: Has come under intense pressure in his job
    VENKY'S BACK UNDER-FIRE STEVE KEAN

Blackburn's owners have given beleaguered manager Steve Kean their full support and dismissed calls from fans to sack him.
Rovers are currently on a mid-season tour of India and secured a 3-0 win over 10-man Pune in an exhibition match with a brace from Jason Roberts and one from Ruben Rochina.
Under Kean, Rovers have taken just four points from their opening seven Premier League games this term, and the frustration of the fans has been evident during this tour of the sub-continent.
The Venky family, who own the club, are refusing to abandon Kean and believe that he will eventually steer the club in the right direction.
Co-owner Balaji Rao told the Daily Mirror: "The team is in the relegation zone now but it's going to come up, I am sure of that.
"We do know a few people have been generating thousands of emails demanding the ousting of Steve Kean, who is a brilliant manager.
"But we know the team is going in the right direction and we are very positive about the way the team is performing and the way it is going."
The claims of Rao are likely to further rile the Rovers faithful, with the club currently sitting second from bottom in the standings.
But their owner has a five-year plan to see them secure a place in Europe.
"On the whole, the goal of playing in Europe in the next four or five years is a realistic one," he added.
Kean has sought to extract the positives from Rovers' trip as he prepares for their game against Queens Park Rangers.
"First of all, any game we play is worth winning. We were very respectful of our opponents," he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"We had 49 shots on goal with almost 30 of them on target. It shows that our possession was good.
"We'll take that forward, it has been a very good week. It was a great week for the guys to spend a lot of time together.
"We can go back with our heads held high."
