Megacable appoints new CTO

Mexico's largest cable TV operator, Megacable, has named Emerson Sampaio as its new chief technology officer (CTO).
With a career spanning 13 years in Fortune 500 cable organisations, Sampaio joins Megacable from Cable Television Laboratories (CableLabs) in the US, where he was senior enterprise architect.
Previously, Sampaio worked as Liberty Global's CTO for Brazil and Puerto Rico. There, he was in charge of rolling out new services, such as DOCSIS 3.0, TV Everywhere and video on demand (VOD), as well as supervising network quality management and pre-existing services such IP telephony.
Sampaio holds a degree in Computer Science from Brazil's Universidad de Ceará and an MBA from Universidad Fortaleza, another Brazilian institution.
His remit at Megacable will be to oversee the MSO's technology strategy and manage the development of the network infrastructure, including the provision of new services and the rollout of new technologies.
He will report to the General Board of the company.
According to Mexico's National Chamber of the Cable Telecommunications Industry (CANITEC), Megacable currently has 1.7 million cable TV subscribers, 590,000 broadband customers and 440,000 IP telephony users.
