Celestial Movies, the Chinese pay TV channel operated by Celestial Pictures, is to offer 3D films as part of its new Celestial Movies On Demand service.
Film Business Asia reports that the service starts in Hong Kong with 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy 3D as well as The Child's Eye 3D. Both will be on demand in 3D and available in their uncut full length theatrical versions to subscribers of nowTV's HD service. Viewers without 3DTVs can order the uncut versions of the two movies in 2D.
Ofanny CHOI, senior vice president, TV channels at Celestial Pictures, said: "We've seen the impact of 3D movies at the cinema, and Celestial Movies intends to bring that same experience home."
3D Sex and Zen earned HK$41m (£3.3m) at the Hong Kong box office. An edited version of the movie will premiere on Celestial Movies' linear channel in November. Child's Eye was Hong Kong's first stereoscopic 3D horror film and played at the Venice festival in September last year.
Celestial Movies shows first-run and blockbuster movies from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, broadcast in Mandarin or original language, with Chinese and English subtitles.
