On Demand breaks Latin American market
Juan Pablo Conti ©RapidTVNews | 14-10-2011 London-based VOD specialist On Demand Group (ODG) has signed its first major deal with a Latin American television company.
The content management and consultancy services provider, a SeaChange International subsidiary, has been hired by Cablevisión México to manage a video on demand (VOD) platform that the MSO had launched back in 2010.
According to ODG, the agreement – the first of its kind in the region – will cover all technical aspects involved in the content aggregation system. The European company will be responsible for the creation, development and operation of both subscription (SVOD) and transaction (TVOD) services.
Since its establishment in 1995, the SeaChange company has managed to build up a considerable footprint across Europe, where it serves some of the biggest cable operators – among them Virgin Media in the UK, SFR in France y Kabel BW in Germany.
With its arrival to the Mexican pay-TV arena, ODG claims it will now be processing a billion VOD transactions every year, which will be carried out through the networks of 19 different telecommunications operators (some of them mobile companies) located in 13 countries and across ten different viewer languages.
CEO Tony Kelly called the agreement "the first significant operational agreement" for his company in Latin America.
