Media Broadcast to showcase HbbTV at Medientage
Jörn Krieger ©RapidTVNews | 16-10-2011 German technical services provider Media Broadcast will showcase a live demonstration of multimedia content being transmitted from the internet to connected TVs and set-top-boxes in HbbTV standard at trade conference and exhibition Medientage München next week.
The solution, which the subsidiary of French TDF group presented at the recent IBC in Amsterdam for the first time, embeds internet content into the electronic programme guides (EPG) of hybrid reception devices. Viewers can thereby access on-demand services, web TV channels and other multimedia content just like conventional TV channels through their remote control.
Partners of the showcase in Munich are Red Bull TV, Süddeutsche Zeitung TV and QVC which provide video and multimedia content.
The data stream containing the URL links to the audio and video content on the internet is sent through a barker channel with around 200 kbit/s which is embedded into the regular broadcast signal. The actual multimedia content gets to consumers' reception devices through the internet via over-the-top TV (OTT).
The barker channel can be deployed on all classic broadcast infrastructures such as cable, satellite or DTT. For the showcase in Munich DTT will be used.
Medientage München will take place from 19 to 21 October 2011 in Munich. Rapid TV News will report from the B2B event on all three days.
