Jörn Krieger ©RapidTVNews | 20-10-2011 German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland will launch its sports news channel Sky Sport News HD on 1 December 2011.
The date was unveiled by football legend Franz Beckenbauer in a video message during the presentation of the channel at the Medientage München 2011 conference.
Carsten Schmidt, chief officer sports, advertising sales & internet at Sky Deutschland, stressed that Sky Sport News HD was not a TV channel in the traditional sense, but a multimedia offering available across all platforms from the TV set and the internet to smartphones and tablet-PCs - on the go and in high-definition.
Through social networks such as Facebook and interactive elements viewers will be able to participate. All subscribers of basic package "Sky Welt" will be able to receive the new channel at no additional charge.
For the launch of Sky Sport News HD, Sky Deutschland has hired around 200 new employees. The experiences Sky has gathered with sports news channels in the UK and Italy will be used for the new channel.
The 24 hour service will commence each morning at 6.00 CET with a look at the upcoming sports events of the day. 30-minute strands with current sports news will follow. Around noon, there will be a mid-day report. The first summary of the day will air at 18.00 CET with another highlights show scheduled at 23.00 CET.
Roman Steuer, head of Sky Sport News HD, underlined that the channel would report on all sports events interesting to sports fans in Germany and Austria. "And that's independently of whether we own the live TV coverage rights of them or not."
