Eutelsat's German direct-to-cable platform KabelKiosk has commenced marketing of its hybrid TV service KabelKiosk Choice at the Medientage München 2011 conference.
The offering, which is based on the HbbTV standard, is a solution tailor-made for cable operators wanting to provide interactive services on the TV screen.
The line-up includes current movie blockbusters via video-on-demand (VOD), applications from external content providers, EPG services and local content. With the new service, KabelKiosk's linear TV channels are supplemented by on-demand content connecting television with the internet.
Through the "KabelKiosk Choice HbbTV Configurator", network operators can embed their own content such as local news, RSS feeds, videos or marketing activities. Eutelsat pursues a white label approach: Network operators can market the hybrid TV service under their own name and in their own design and integrate it into their own product world.
At the official market deployment in January 2012, KabelKiosk Choice will be available on HbbTV-compliant digital cable receivers. In future, the service will also be accessible directly through TV sets.
