Channel 4 inks BBC Worldwide sales deal for UK cable
Editor ©RapidTVNews | 21-10-2011 In a perfect example of the complexities of today’s broadcast industry, Channel 4’s sales arm has agreed a contract with BBC Worldwide to sell advertising in the UK around its on-demand content running on Virgin Media's TV Choice VOD platform.
The deal which will commence in early December 2011, is yet another coup for the commercial arm of the BBC whose business has boomed of late, bringing BBC content way outside of the traditional territories. In a most recent example, BBC Worldwide launched the global BBC iPlayer App in Australia exclusively on the Apple iPad.
BBC Worldwide content is available on other ad-funded digital platforms in the UK including MSN, Blinkbox and YouTube. Virgin’s TV Choice On Demand offers a library of popular TV series – comedy, drama, kids and documentary—running on a Virgin V Box or TiVo box.
Commented Errol Baran, Head of Online Sales, Channel 4: "We're delighted to have been chosen by BBC Worldwide for this service. This is a prestigious account for Channel 4 Sales and the representation will further strengthen Channel 4's position as the UK's premier VOD sales house and the default home for ad sales around great British content."
