State broadcaster Bangladesh TV has been off air for four days in part of the country while repairs – which may take up to a week longer to complete - are made to equipment damaged by a lightning strike in 2010.
Viewers in the districts of Habiganj, Moluvibazar, Sylhet and Sunamganj have been unable to watch Bangladesh TV broadcasts since Thursday (20 October). Authorities did not take alternative measures, according to Bangladesh News 24.
Assistant engineer Abdul Latif Khan of BTV's Sylhet unit, told the publication: "An expert team coming from France started changing the cable and repairing the divider on Thursday. It may take another week to resume the broadcast."
Cricket fans in the affected areas have expressed their 'dissatisfaction' at not being able to watch the in progress Test match between Bangladesh and the West Indies. Bangladesh TV is the exclusive domestic broadcast rights holder for the series.
