The latest forecast by market consultancy GfK has concluded that a total of 20% of the TV sets sold in Spain by the end of 2011 will be 'connected' or 'hybrid' in nature, representing one million units.
At the moment only 3.5% of Spanish homes have a connected TV set and 8% of the TV sets which are being commercialised incorporate this technology. Taking account of these numbers the experts forecast that the rise of this technology will take off once the Netflix over the top service arrives and TiVo settles down in this country.
Furthering such development, during last summer Mediaset Espa˝a and Telefˇnica announced the development of a 'connected TV' project based on the HbbTV standard. Subsequently media agency Zenith Media and Prisa Brand Solutions have both announced an advertising agreement on the new TV advertising formats based on the hybrid standard.
