In a move that has surprised many football fans, Fox Sports Media Group has outscored ESPN in securing the exclusive US media rights to the FIFA World Cup across all platforms from 2015 to 2022.
According to reports in the Associated Press, Fox has paid somewhere in the region of $425 for rights encompassing the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2022 FIFA World Cup, the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and other FIFA events

“We are truly honoured for FIFA to award the Fox Sports Media Group these extremely important rights," commented FOX Sports Media Group Chairman David Hill. “The FIFA World Cup and Women’s World Cup are two of the world’s biggest competitions. It is our privilege to be entrusted with these rights in the United States from 2015 through 2022.”
In addition to ratifying the Fox bid, the FIFA Executive Committee also granted NBCUniversal’s Telemundo Media Spanish-language rights for TV.
