Entertain Sat reaches 50,000 customers

More than 50,000 customers have signed up for the service within 6 weeks, Christian P. Illek, director of marketing at Telekom Deutschland, told news agency Reuters.
"That's at the top end of what we expected," Illek said, adding that the telco hopes to exceed 100,000 subscribers by the end of the year.
A reason for the customer increase was that considerably more households in Germany are able to receive Telekom's TV service following the move to the satellite, explained Illed. Instead of 20 million, the offering now reaches 30 million households.
Entertain Sat, which launched in September 2011, is a hybrid platform on which viewers receive conventional digital television including HDTV package HD+ through Astra (19.2° East) while interactive services such as video-on-demand (VOD) and the electronic programme guide (EPG) get to TV screens through the internet.
However, satellite customers are left without Telekom's pay-TV packages including football Bundesliga channel "LIGA total!" as they are only offered via IPTV.
In total, IPTV platform Entertain now has 1.3 million customers. Telekom expects the figure to rise to 1.5 million by the end of the year, said Illek. To accelerate growth, the offering will become accessible on mobile reception devices such as tablet-PCs and smartphones in 2012.
