Swiss commercial broadcaster Star TV will launch an HD simulcast in spring 2012. Around a dozen programmes reporting on Swiss news in movies, politics, entertainment, sports and music as well as all live event coverage will be transmitted in high-definition.
"We are happy that we will be able to offer our viewers HD quality in addition to analogue distribution, thereby following the trend of our technology partners," said Star TV CEO Paul Grau. He added that the channel started upgrading its studio technology and live event equipment for the HD format three years ago.
Star TV launched in 1995 as Switzerland's first national commercial TV broadcaster. The 24-hour schedule, which focuses on movies, lifestyle, music, entertainment and politics, can be received in analogue on cable networks in German-speaking Switzerland and in digital in the other parts of the country. The channel is also available on IPTV platform Swisscom TV.
