Channel 4 maintains VOD vigour
The latest monthly performance statistics released by Channel 4 for its 4oD video on demand (VOD) service have revealed a continued rise in viewing.
Specifically, the data shows that for September 2011, the UK’s fourth broadcaster increased VOD viewing on its by 2 million across all platforms—including channel4.com, YouTube, SeeSaw, iOS, PlayStation, BT Vision, Virgin Media and Talk Talk—from the 31 million long form views recorded in the previous month.
For the year to date, Channel 4 has captured 308 million long form VOD views, a rise of 19.3% year on year. Viewing for 4oD on Channel4.com increased by 300,000 month on month, to 3.9 million average monthly unique viewers.
Leading the VOD popularity charts is Chester-based glamour-filled teen drama Hollyoaks with 2.3 million views followed by teenage schoolboy comedy Inbetweeners which drew 1.6 million views. Comedy in general was the top genre for the channel pulling in 8.4 million views during September, whilst VOD views for drama rose by almost 2 million to 7.2 million views, boosted by the popularity of series including new student comedy Fresh Meat and evergreen comedy Shameless.
