Kudelski Group has undergone a major structural several as it struggles to front the economic crisis impacting several regions where it operates as well as the strengthening of the Swiss franc.
The digital security and convergent media solutions provider, best known for the Nagra range of conditional access solutions, recognises the need to address the changing needs of the new TV and Internet markets and believes that its new moves will result in it strengthening of a focus of online TV, the acceleration of convergence with digital TV and the simplification of security and middlewareroadmaps .
The company says that inthe universe resulting from the convergence between digital TV and Internet, special emphasis will be placed on developing new technologies integrating connected networks.
Its OpenTV teams and solutions, as well as those in the conditional access sector, will be fully integrated into one single Digital TV structure with the hope that the Group's organisation – including R&D, production and support – will be simplified to become more efficient, rapid and cost-effective. Additionally, by creating a Cybersecurity unit, Kudelski believes that it will be addressing the demand for security and data protection in the onlinevideosphere.
However, one of the consequences of the new strategy will be measures that will bring about a net annual cost reduction of CHF 90 million that will see the company lose 270 out of its 3000 employees, and those in what are described as ‘high-cost locations’ are in the firing line.
