Swiss public broadcaster SRG has purchased the largest sports rights portfolio of its history for the forthcoming years. Financial details have not been disclosed.
SRG's television channels will, for example, be able to screen one game per round of domestic football league Super League and a large number of matches of the national ice-hockey league live including all playoff rounds from 2012.
Further rights include the Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi and 2016 in Rio, the Ice-Hockey World Championships until 2017 and international tennis tournaments such as Wimbledon, Davis Cup, US Open and Australian Open.
Negotiations are still underway covering the rights for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, the games of Switzerland's national football team and the Swiss Football Cup as well as the Ice-Hockey Spengler Cup from 2012.
