Unitymedia grows with triple play
Jörn Krieger ©RapidTVNews | 03-11-2011 Germany's second largest cable operator Unitymedia has increased its number of triple play customers in Q3 2011.
In the 3 months to 30 September 2011, 69,600 new internet subscriptions were sold, the subsidiary of US media company Liberty Global announced in Cologne. This was the highest increase in internet customers in a quarter.
The number of telephony customers rose by the record figure of 68,900 while 55,400 customers opted for digital television. Out of the total number of 4.6 million customers, 38% now receive digital television. One year ago, the share was 33%.
Almost 12% of Unitymedia's customers in the upgraded regions have now signed up for an internet or telephony subscription from the cable operator. One year ago, the share was 9%.
Unitymedia operates cable networks in federal states North-Rhine Westpahlia and Hessen. If Germany's cartel office approves the planned take-over of Kabel BW, then Baden-Württemberg will be added to Liberty Global's German footprint. A decision will be made by 15 December 2011.
