YouTube does Disney deal to deliver short-form online video
Editor ©RapidTVNews | 08-11-2011 Making yet another step to move towards monetisable content, YouTube has entered into a contract with Disney Interactive to show the latter’s short-form family content.
Under the terms of the deal said to be worth up to $15 million, the Disney division will deliver original, short-form film and select T V content that will be hosted in early 2012 on YouTube and also its own Disney.com destination.
Analysts believe that the move is strategically hugely important for Disney Interactive which has recorded losses in its last for financial quarters and whose online video traffic has undergone serious declines in that period. By co-branding with Google’s online video giant it is thought that the site will enjoy resurgence in both areas.
Commented Disney Interactive co-president Jimmy Pitaro: "With online video consumption exploding and YouTube at the centre of that trend, we see an opportunity for Disney Interactive and YouTube to bring Disney's legacy of storytelling to a new generation of families and Disney enthusiasts on the platforms they prefer…As we prepare to re-launch Disney.com in fall 2012, the Disney/YouTube destination will play a critical part in our next generation platform."
