The mobile consumption of video content on smartphones and tablet-PCs will gain significance in Germany in the forthcoming years.
By 2015, the number of regular users will grow from currently around 3.8 million to 16.5 million - a yearly increase by around 45% on average, according to a new study compiled by German research company goetzpartners. The share of people using mobile video content will thereby rise from 4.6% to 20% of the population.

However, in international comparison Germany still strongly lags behind other markets: Not even half as many people as in the UK or France currently use mobile TV in Germany.
In order to further accelerate the development, users will have to get access on their mobile devices not only to content, but also to a broad line-up of conventional channels, according to the study.
In addition to the significant upgrade of mobile broadband networks it would also be important to adjust video offerings more specifically to the mobile consumption and to create attractive payment models.
