ARD secures DFB Cup rights

German public broadcaster ARD will show domestic football tournament DFB Cup on free-to-air television.
The broadcaster acquired the TV rights from national football association DFB for the seasons from 2012/13 to 2015/16. Financial details have not been disclosed.
The agreement covers eight live matches per season including the final game as well as highlights from the other games. It also contains the women's cup final.
ARD has so far shared the DFB Cup TV rights with fellow public broadcaster ZDF which will in future focus on the UEFA Champions League rights it recently acquired. Pay-TV broadcaster Sky will continue to screen all 63 games on subscription television.
