Digital TV grows in Switzerland

The number of digital TV households has continued to grow in Switzerland, as the latest figures posted by the cable and IPTV providers show.
The cable operators have won almost 300,000 new digital households within the past 12 months, industry association Swisscable announced. The number of digital cable households has thereby risen by 42% to a total of 1.01 million households. The share of digital households among all cable households amounted to 36% on 30 September 2011. One year ago, the figure was 25%.
For their telephony services, the cable operators managed to acquire 81,200 new customers in the past 12 months, an increase of 21% to a total of 468,600 households. The number of internet customers climbed by 79,000 to 857,100 - a growth of10%.
Digital TV via IPTV also continued to grow: National telco Swisscom increased the number of customers of its IPTV platform Swisscom TV within the past 12 months by 198,000 to 556,000 customers. This corresponds with a growth by 55%, as the company announced at the presentation of its latest figures. In Q3 2011 alone, 44,000 new customers were won.
