CBS Sports to bring professional lacrosse to the masses
Michelle Clancy ©RapidTVNews | 09-11-2011 In what many would call a long-tail content arrangement, CBS Sports Network has 'netted' a deal to cover the 2012 Major League Lacrosse season.
All 14 live national contests and 18 episodes of the 'Inside the MLL' magazine show will air during the season, showcasing the trials, tribulations and successes of the eight-team league, including a 'final four' playoff postseason and a championship game.
The Boston Cannons, Charlotte Hounds, Chesapeake Bayhawks, Denver Outlaws, Hamilton Nationals, Long Island Lizards, Ohio Machine and Rochester Rattlers will all get their turn in the spotlight starting April 28.
"We are thrilled to partner with the MLL, adding to our already robust lineup of lacrosse programming," said Ross Molloy, vice president, CBS Sports Network, in a statement. "Lacrosse has long been a staple on our network and we look forward to showcasing the world's best lacrosse players while further increasing the national visibility of the sport."
MLL Commissioner David Gross said that with such distribution the sport will gain the exposure needed to hook a wider audience for "not only the fastest growing sport in the country, but the fastest sport on two feet."
Lacrosse has other backers as well. ESPN2 will offer six live contests, including an All-Star game, which will also be streamed live on ESPN3.com.
