Neil Warnock: Capello should have been sacked
    WARNOCK: CAPELLO SHOULD'VE GONE

Neil Warnock insists Fabio Capello should have been sacked as England manager after last year's World Cup and has reiterated his desire to see Harry Redknapp in the role.
Italian Capello is set to step down as Three Lions boss after next summer's European Championship in Poland and Ukraine, with the FA thought to be seeking an English manager as his successor.
QPR boss Warnock believes Capello should have been shown the door after England's disastrous campaign in South Africa to give a new manager the chance to turn things around without the pressure of an impending showpiece tournament.
And the Yorkshireman feels Tottenham boss Redknapp would have been, and still is, a perfect fit for the role.
"I never agreed with Capello's appointment and certainly not the money he is paid. That is little more than scandalous," he told The Sun.
"They should have let Capello go then (after the World Cup) - and not just for financial reasons. It was a wonderful chance to make a clean break and bring in someone like Harry.
"By making a clear statement of intent about what we were doing and, more importantly, why we were doing it, the FA would have taken away a lot of the fear.
"They should have also taken the bull by the horns and embarked on a two-year cycle of experimentation where the results were not the paramount concern."
England will face Spain in a friendly on Saturday and Sweden next week as they continue their preparations for Euro 2012 after qualifying last month.
But Warnock does not have high hopes for Capello's side in next year's tournament, adding: "England have no chance of winning anything at the moment.
"In fact, I can't see them even challenging in the forseeable future."
The QPR boss believes Redknapp's man-management skills would give him the edge in the England role, insisting a good-humoured relationship with the players is key.
He added: "The England job is one of man-management, getting your message across - and having a bit of fun.
"We should never minimise the role banter and leg-pulling plays in the dressing-room and on the training-field. Humour is so important in this game - even more so at international level.
"That is one of Harry's great strengths. He understands players, he knows what makes them tick, knows how to get the best out of them and knows how to make them laugh. He always says management is not rocket science - and he's right."

    Asamoah Gyan: Happy with move
    ASAMOAH GYAN HAS NO REGRETS

Striker Asamoah Gyan insists he has 'no regrets at all' about leaving Sunderland to ply his trade on loan in the United Arab Emirates.
The Ghana international penned a temporary deal with big-spending Al-Ain in August, making an acrimonious exit from the Stadium of Light.
Manager Steve Bruce was thought to be furious over his departure at the time, blasting the "parasites" that turned his head with the chance of a big-money move.
But Gyan says he is enjoying life with his new club and has had no second thoughts over his summer switch.
He told The Independent: "I'm really enjoying myself. It's really working out well for me and I'm really happy for now.
"I have no regrets at all about leaving Sunderland."

Calderwood: Sacked by Hibernian after poor run
    HIBS BEGIN MANAGER SEARCH

Hibernian's search for a new manager will start in earnest on Wednesday after chairman Rod Petrie told shareholders at the club's AGM he had received 40 applications for the post vacated by Colin Calderwood.
The Leith club have been in some turmoil since dispensing with the services of Calderwood on Sunday, following the home defeat to Dunfermline in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League which left them in ninth place, one point ahead of bottom side Inverness.
Petrie was expected to receive a rough ride at Easter Road on Tuesday night but it was all very tepid as he confirmed that the task of finding a new boss will primarily be down to executive director Scott Lindsay and managing director Fife Hyland.
Billy Brown is caretaker in the meantime, while former Hearts boss Jim Jefferies and former Hibs midfielder Michael O'Neill, manager of Shamrock Rovers, have been linked with the post.
Before he was given a firm vote of confidence at the end of the meeting by the club's owner, Sir Tom Farmer, who enthusiastically described him as the "finest chairman" he could have, Petrie said: "The recruitment of a new manager is under way.
"We hope that our players will respond to a fresh start.
"The club gave Colin Calderwood the chance to succeed but it came to the point where we had to act decisively.
"I think that it is right that we take our time and look afresh at the recruitment process. This will be led by Scott and by Fife.
"As before, we will speak to knowledgeable people within football to help us make the appointment.
"We will all utilise our wide network of contacts in the game to make sure we have a rounded perspective of the potential candidates. But at the end of the day, the next manager will be appointed by the board of directors."
Before the AGM some disgruntled supporters from newly-formed protest group 'Hibsforchange' gathered at the Famous Five Stand and chanted 'sack the board' while holding up a banner which read: 'Eight managers in 10 years can't all be wrong. Get Petrie out now!!'
Petrie apologised for the appointment of Calderwood but stressed that the former Scotland defender's downfall was down to him alone.
"I am sorry that the appointment of Colin Calderwood was not a success," he said.
"The manager has the authority and autonomy to make the football decisions at the club. There is no interference by the board.
"We backed the manager just as we backed previous managers and players who come to the club are wanted by the manager.
"No player leaves the club without the express agreement of the manager. If the manager does not want it to happen then it does not happen."

Steve Harper: Set to return to Newcastle
    POYET WANTS HARPER STAY

Brighton manager Gus Poyet wants to keep on-loan goalkeeper Steve Harper until the new year - just as he originally intended to do.
Harper has kept two clean sheets in his four appearances since moving to the Amex Stadium on a month-long deal from Newcastle but is due to return to Tyneside after Brighton's next fixture against Southampton.
Poyet told The Argus: "The idea in the beginning was it would be up to January. For some reasons, in the last few hours of negotiations, it changed to only a month.
"I don't like a month because players get used to how you play then go back, so I was as surprised as anyone.
"I was convinced it was for almost three months. It's very difficult to explain the reasons but it happened.
"I know it is difficult when somebody is on a short loan and they are a long way from home, so there are things we need to manage. We want the players to be happy here."

Nacer Chadli: Close to Fulham move
    CHADLI RUES FAILED FULHAM MOVE

FC Twente winger Nacer Chadli claims a knee injury prevented him from joining Fulham in the summer but the Belgian is still keen on a move to England.
The 22-year-old returned to action in October after being sidelined for three months with the problem, which he picked up during pre-season.
Chadli says the Cottagers were on the verge of signing him until he sustained the injury.
"I had an offer from Fulham but got injured and the deal fell through," he told Voetbal Primeur. "It is still my goal to play in the English league."
The Belgium international admits his recovery was difficult as he dealt with his first serious injury since turning professional.
"It was tough because it was the first major injury of my career," he added. "An inflammation of the knee and three months out."
Belgium national team coach Georges Leekens was delighted to see Chadli return to the set-up for the impending international games.
He said: "It's good how sharp Nacer is since his return. He has lost none of his nimble nature."

    Carlos Tevez: Missed training
CARLOS TEVEZ SKIPS MAN CITY TRAINING

Carlos Tevez has failed to report for training with Manchester City this morning, the club have confirmed.
Tevez, who it emerged on Tuesday would not be appealing against City's ruling that he was guilty of misconduct in the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on September 27, is understood to have flown out to his native Argentina on Monday night.
Tuesday was a scheduled day off for the 27-year-old, but he was due at City's Carrington training ground on Wednesday morning and has not shown up, meaning he could now be in further trouble with the club.

    Magath: Backed by board
    FELIX MAGATH GIVEN BOARD BACKING

Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath has been given a vote of confidence by his board after last weekend's 5-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund left the club languishing in the bottom half of the table.
Magath's re-appointment as Wolfsburg coach last March raised a few eyebrows just 48 hours after he had walked out on Schalke and his aim was to save the club he had led to the title in 2009 from the threat of relegation.
Having achieved that objective only on the final day of the season, the expectations were a lot higher prior to the current campaign.
However, last weekend's defeat was already the Wolves' seventh defeat of the season. Only Freiburg have lost as many this term.
Magath's aims of qualifying for the Champions League this season and mounting a challenge for the title again by 2014 therefore seem a little ambitious, but his club still have faith in him.
"It just seems like our revolution is going to take a little longer than first thought," said the club's chairman Francisco Garcia Sanz to the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.
"Magath is the right man for us."
And Magath could be given even more money to spend during the winter break if his side fails to pull away from the danger zone and start moving in the right direction.
"The worse the results, the higher the pressure is to do something," admitted Magath, who took just two years to deliver Wolfsburg's one and only league title two years ago.
    "We could n

    Davide Ballardini: Returns to Cagliari
    BALLARDINI RETURNS TO CAGLIARI

Cagliari have appointed Davide Ballardini as their new coach after sacking Massimo Ficcadenti on Tuesday night.
The 47-year-old Ballardini returns to guide the Sardinian outfit for the third time in his career.
A statement from Cagliari on Wednesday read: "Davide Ballardini is Cagliari's new coach.
"The new Rossoblu coach returns after guiding the Islanders in the 2005-06 and 2007-08 campaigns.
"Ballardini will guide his first training session this afternoon and will be unveiled to the media shortly after."
Ballardini will be Cagliari's third coach this season.
Ficcadenti only replaced former Italy boss Roberto Donadoni in the summer and had made a solid start winning three of his opening five league games in charge.
However, Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Atalanta extended Cagliari's winless run to five games and dropped the Sardinians to 10th place.
Ballardini was out of a job since parting company with Genoa this summer.
His first game in charge will be at Inter Milan on November 19.

Davies: Knows there are other priorities
    DAVIES UNDERSTANDS CONTRACT DELAY

Bolton captain Kevin Davies accepts talks over a new contract may have to wait until the club have strengthened their position in the Barclays Premier League.
Davies, who will be 35 in March, is among a number of players - including the likes of Gary Cahill, Martin Petrov, Zat Knight and Gretar Steinsson - whose current deals expire next summer.
But with Wanderers having had such a difficult start to the season and currently 18th in the table the striker, who has been at the Reebok Stadium since 2003, admits there are more pressing priorities.
"There has been no discussion at the moment, but what will be, will be. Everyone knows what I feel about the club," he told the Bolton News.
"It isn't something I'm really thinking about. I just want to move us out of this situation in the league.
"When the club decide to open talks might depend on the league position.
"If we are going to find ourselves in a relegation battle with a few games to go then that could have some bearing on whether the chairman (Phil Gartside) is going to be offering contracts.
"But if we can get out of this position then it will help everyone.
"We need to string some results together and we have certainly got the squad to do that."

    Daum: New Club Brugge coach
    DAUM TAKES CLUB BRUGGE ROLE
Club Brugge have named Christoph Daum as their new coach.
The 58-year-old German replaces Dutchman Adrie Koster and has agreed a contract that ties him to the Belgian club until 2013, with the option of an extra season after that.
The vastly-experienced Daum has won league titles with Stuttgart, Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Austria Vienna while he also counts Bayer Leverkusen, Cologne, Austria Vienna and Eintracht Frankfurt among his former clubs.
Club Brugge, who sacked Koster at the end of last month, are fifth in the Belgian league on 22 points, seven adrift of leaders Anderlecht, and are top of Europa League Group H, although level on seven points with Birmingham and Braga.
