Ad confusion in Czech Republic

The Czech public broadcaster CT continues to carry commercials on one of its flagship channels despite no longer being legally entitled to do so.
According to E15, loopholes have appeared in recent amendments to legislation that apparently permit the channel CT1 to carry advertising associated with sports and cultural programming, with the total volume of such commercials not allowed to exceed 0.5% of airtime.
Commenting on this situation, CT’s head Petr Dvorak said the broadcaster would use the option conservatively and would not go “to the very edge of the law”.
Following pressure from the leading commercial broadcasters TV Nova and Prima TV, legislators earlier this autumn decided to remove commercials from CT1 and CT24, whilst leaving them on CT2 and CT4.
In a separate development, M&M says that around 10,000 homes in the Moravian region of the Czech Republic will still not be able to receive digital services when the country completes analogue switch off this Friday (November 11).
