The piracy of pay-TV punishes the Middle East

The television signal piracy in the Middle East has cost the pay-TV operators around 500 million dollars. And is that the distribution of illegal content has been and remains a major problem in the area, accentuated in countries like Egypt and Lebanon.

So says Nick Thomas of the firm Informa Telecoms & Media, who claims that the legal infrastructure of the Middle Eastern countries lack clear guidelines against the practice of piracy.

The fight against piracy is important. And the lack of clear legislation in some areas is an obstacle, according to Nick Thomas.

The pay-TV platforms in the Middle East estimated that some two million lost subscribers because of piracy.
