STARZ targets Latin America with FOX, Moviecity
Michelle Clancy ©RapidTVNews | 15-11-2011 STARZ has inked a deal with South America’s Moviecity premium TV distributor and FOX Latin American Channels to distribute STARZ Originals and movie programming.
The upcoming STARZ Originals series set in Miami Beach in 1959, “Magic City,” and future STARZ Originals series distributed by Starz Media Worldwide Distribution will be included. Also licensed will be select feature films; historically that has included Anchor Bay Films and other independent studios.
Moviecity will distribute the offerings in Brazil and other Latin American countries. FOX Latin American Channels will premiere “Magic City” in an exclusive basic cable window in the same markets.
The deal also covers distribution by Moviecity Play, the online service for Moviecity subscribers that allows them to watch Moviecity content on their computers for no extra charge, and on basic subscription on-demand service FoxHits.
Moviecity has already aired the STARZ Originals series, “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” and “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena,” and is now airing the final episodes of “Camelot,” a series that aired on STARZ in the US earlier this year.
“Success with ‘Spartacus’ showed us the potential for future STARZ Originals programming,” said Edgar Spielmann, CEO and president of Moviecity. “We are excited about their vision for future high quality projects and especially, the upcoming ‘Magic City.’ We see Starz as one of the great premium programming providers in the world and will certainly be a powerhouse for series production in the future.”
