Michelle Clancy ©RapidTVNews | 24-11-2011 UTStarcom has been awarded a provincial level contract from the Zhejiang Radio, Film and TV Bureau to build the largest integrated IPTV broadcasting control platform in China.
The platform has the capacity to serve approximately two million households across Zhejiang province.
"We are excited to have won this contract after a rigorous and highly contested bidding process," said UTStarcom President and CEO Jack Lu, in a statement. "Zhejiang province has been at the forefront of China's progression towards three network convergence and our digital, high-definition broadcasting control platform will further strengthen their leading position in IPTV service."
UTStarcom will deliver a packaged solution that includes software and infrastructure development, as well as content delivery network (CDN) support. The bi-directional service will enable the customer to efficiently manage, store and search user data and media content all at a lower cost. A round of trial cities are to be announced in the near future.
Since 2010, UTStarcom has built seven IPTV broadcast control platforms across China, specifically in Beijing, Hubei, Hunan, Shandong, Shenzhen, Sichuan, and Tianjin.
