OSN to launch OTT TV service for MENA
Rebecca Hawkes ©RapidTVNews | 23-11-2011 Pay-TV operator OSN is to launch a multiscreen broadband television service for connected devices to complement its existing satellite TV platform for the Arab world.
The over the top (OTT) video platform, which will provide subscribers in the Middle East and North Africa with both live content and video-on-demand, is to be developed and deployed by Prague-based KIT digital.
"KIT digital's advanced solutions, unparalleled experience and global footprint support our commitment to providing the very best in next-generation premium content options to our customers, and keeps us on the cutting edge of this burgeoning field of digital entertainment," said David Butorac, chief executive, OSN.
"OSN has been a leader in adopting innovative technology, such as HD and 3D, and now we are determined to expand into multiple screen delivery. Consumer demand for aggregation of premium and social content to a variety of new connected devices provides a great new arena to bundle content with devices, utilising the native features for each device to enable unique interactive content experiences," he added.
OSN now offers 93 channels of Arabic, English and Filipino content – with a variety of third party studio programming and in-house productions, and 19 channels in high definition (HD). The new digital multiscreen platform, based on KIT's Connected Device Framework and cloud-based technology, will support subscription, transactional and advertising-funded business models for video-on-demand and live television streaming.
"Our deployment of a world-beating OTT platform for OSN is a milestone in the ongoing expansion of KIT digital and underscores our long-standing presence in the Middle East and North Africa," said Kaleil Isaza Tuzman, chairman and chief executive, KIT digital.
"OSN will now be able to leverage the KIT video platform to significantly increase operational workflow efficiencies while delivering advanced broadband TV experiences to audiences anytime, anywhere."
