With a turnover of €9 billion, the German consumer electronics (CE) industry expects a powerful Christmas sales period. The figure is 14% higher than last year, as industry association gfu announced in Frankfurt.
Around one third of each year's turnover in the CE industry is traditionally achieved in the Christmas period and around the turn of the year. There is strong consumer demand in the shops for connected TV sets which can be hooked up to the internet, 3D TV sets, smartphones and tablet-PCs.
In total, more than 9 million TV sets will be sold in Germany in 2011 with LCD-screen sets accounting for the vast majority (8.5 million sets). The share of connected TV sets will rise to around 5 million in 2011 while 1.3 million will be 3D sets.
The German CE industry expects a total turnover of more than €27 billion in 2011, around 5% more than in 2010. For 2012, a growth by 4% is anticipated.
