Buy one get one free may be a staple for its parent’s core business but the principal is also coming to the blinkbox online video service.

Customers simply link their Tesco Clubcard with a blinkbox account and then any eligible DVD or Blu-ray purchased from Tesco will automatically appear in their blinkbox online video library. The supermarket chain is not surprisingly bullish about the prospects of the new offer. Said Richard Brasher, CEO, Tesco UK: “This innovation with blinkbox will help start a digital revolution, combining the physical DVD with the digital for the first time.”
Exclusive to Tesco Clubcard customers who have purchased any of 25 eligible titles in-store or online, and beginning with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, those who purchase a DVD or Blu-ray film will have the ability to own the movie online via blinkbox.
Additional titles that will be part of the new service as they are released on DVD include: The Hangover Part 2, The Smurfs, Final Destination 5, Jeremy Clarkson: Powered Up, Top Gear at the Movies, John Bishop Sunshine Tour and Conan the Barbarian.
When a physical film or TV show has been purchased, customers are able to view the film from their blinkbox account at any time from multiple devices such as a PC, Mac, PS3, LG and Samsung Smart TV, and soon on Xbox 360 and iPad.
Commented Michael Comish, CEO, blinkbox: “To be able to bring this truly ground breaking service to consumers is very exciting for blinkbox. Our customers already know that we are the number one choice for the latest new movie titles the day they released on DVD, so working with Tesco to give them access to both a physical and a digital version allows them choice and the best of both worlds.”
