Canal+ signs definitive DTT agreement with Bolloré

French media groups Bolloré and Canal+ have signed a definitive agreement for purchase by the pay-TV group of 60% of free DTT channels Direct 8 and Direct Star.

The agreement also includes the acquisition of their ad department and Canal+ will have the option to acquire 100% of the channels’ assets in exchange of a payment in Vivendi shares.
This deal will be submitted to the agreement of French Competition Authority and TV regulator CSA.
Buying into Direct Star and Direct 8 represents Canal+’s biggest foray into the French free DTT arena, a move feared by competitors TF1 and M6 fear it. The group already owns news channel I>Télé.
