YouTube unveils new look

YouTube has launched a complete makeover of its video portal, putting emphasis on personalisation, social media tools and on a more ‘TV-like’ experience.

The new home page was rolled out during December 1 to the more than 800 million monthly users of the portal. YouTube has also redesigned the look and feel of the channels.
“To help you get more into YouTube, we’re making it easier to find and follow great channels when you arrive. On the left side of the homepage you can create your own, personal, customizable YouTube channel line-up. Sign-in, or create a YouTube account. Then you can browse recommended channels; customise your homepage’s feed; even link your YouTube account to Google+ and Facebook to see what your friends are sharing,” writes the YouTube team on their official blog.
During a press event at the San Bruno HQ, YouTube executives declined to say if the portal is now profitable. They just continued to tell their always impressive usage figures: year-over-year revenue has doubled each year since 2009; traffic has exploded on mobile devices to more than 400 million views per day; double the 200 million views at the start of 2011. YouTube now receives 48 hours of video uploads every minute.
