American display technology expert ViewSonic plans to manufacture a new connected TV in the Argentine island of Tierra del Fuego.
While the company is expected to produce a whole range of smart TVs and other electronic devices in the Latin American country, the first confirmed product to roll off the lines will be a 32" flat screen HDTV.
The screen will come with an in-built ISDB-T decoder to receive digital terrestrial television (DTT) transmissions from the Argentine system currently being deployed by the Government.
According to the Portinos.com news portal, the new ViewSonic smart TV will be assembled in partnership with Argentine company New Tree. The product will incorporate a motherboard made entirely in Tierra del Fuego.
The announcement was made during an event held in Argentina and attended by Jeff Volpe, vice-president and general manager of ViewSonic Americas, and Salvador Crespo, territory manager of the company.
