Uganda's Bukedde TV, part of the Vision Group, is to be broadcast from 12 December via both MultiChoice's DStv digital satellite TV platform and its new GOtv pay TV service, which launched in the east African country in August.

Until the new deal, Bukedde TV, which broadcasts in the Luganda dialect, has only available clearly in the central Buganda region of Uganda since its launch two years ago.
At the signing ceremony on 2 December, Robert Kabushenga, chief executive, Vision Group thanked viewers in other parts of Uganda for their patience, and said the company had "been working very hard towards finalising [this carriage deal] for some time."
"This is an important milestone for our company and in MultiChoice, we have a corporate partner with a very long track record and proven subscriber numbers to match," he added.
The channel provides local entertainment, soap operas, local news and informative and education-based shows including Agataliiko Nfuufu, Byansi, Kuuma omubiri, Oluyimba lwo, and Akasaale. It has one of the fastest growing audiences in the central region of Uganda, according to New Vision.
"The future of digital television in Africa lies in the adoption of the latest technology and a company's willingness to invest in, and showcase programming that is increasingly relevant and representative to the end consumer," said Charles Hamya, general manager of MultiChoice Uganda.
"Bukedde is without doubt one of the leading local channels in Uganda, therefore this decision makes both commercial and programming sense."
The deal follows another foray into the Ugandan content market earlier this year by MultiChoice Africa, when it signed a five year TV sponsorship deal with the Uganda Super League (USL) to bring local football to its SuperSport menu.
