Portugal has chalked up some 2.89 million pay-TV subscribers according to the latest official figures by ANACOM for September 2011.
These figures cover all TV divisions: cable, satellite, terrestrial and DSL TV and represent a growth of 43.000 subscribers in relation to the previous quarter and some 174.000 regarding the same period last year.
What strikes from the study is the fact that while DTT arrived in this country some time ago with an interesting in-the-clear TV offering, viewers have stuck with pay-TV. Indeed the sector has shown a rise of 6.4% in this sector over the last year.
Zon TV Cabo operator, formerly TV Cabo, has maintained its lead with 54.9% ahead of PT's Meo Satélite with 33.2%..Both operators distribute their offerings on the Hispasat satellite fleet at 30º W.
