    Krunoslav Jurcic: Moving on
    JURCIC RELIEVED OF ZAGREB DUTIES
Dinamo Zagreb sacked coach Krunoslav Jurcic immediately after their Champions League humbling by Lyon.
The Croatian side were thrashed 7-1 on home soil as Les Gones stormed into the knockout stages.
Dinamo top their domestic league, having taken 42 points from 17 games as they chase their seventh straight title, but the manner of the Lyon defeat proved too much for the club's hierarchy.
A statement on the club's website, www.gnkdinamo.hr said: "Immediately after the sixth game in the Champions League against Lyon, representatives of the executive and supervisory boards met and delivered a unanimous vote of no confidence in Dinamo coach Krunoslav Jurcic."
Dinamo appointed Jurcic for a second spell in May but will now search for his successor during the winter break.
Club vice-president Zdravko Mamic told www.uefa.com: "It was a very difficult time for our club during this match and this was definitely not the way we wanted to end the season in the Champions League.
"The club's executive board asked for an urgent meeting after the match and unanimously it was decided that the club would terminate the contract with coach Krunoslav Jurcic.
"I really didn't imagine before the match that we would end it with a coaching change."

Asamoah Gyan: On a season-long loan deal in UAE
    O'NEILL PONDERS GYAN RECALL

New Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is weighing up a move to recall Asamoah Gyan from his loan spell in the United Arab Emirates.
O'Neill is keen to boost Sunderland's striking options and is ready to offer Gyan a return to the Stadium of Light as he looks to give the whole squad a clean slate.
Gyan left Sunderland in controversial circumstances in September when joining Al-Ain on loan following a bust-up with Steve Bruce.
O'Neill knows Sunderland need to improve their attacking options and he has revealed he will discuss Gyan's situation with Niall Quinn to see if the Ghana star can be recalled from his season-long switch.
"It's absolutely something that I'll address," O'Neill said of the possibility of recalling Gyan.
"I have to talk to Niall about exactly where we stand on that. His position will definitely be looked at.
"He started off brilliantly, then things tapered away a little bit, so the potential is there. I don't know the lad at all, but I will have a look at it."

Neville isn't expecting Landon Donovan back

    NEVILLE DOUBTS DONOVAN RETURN

Phil Neville isn't convinced American Landon Donovan will return to Everton during the January transfer window.
The USA international starred during a 10-game spell at Goodison Park in 2010, but Neville thinks the Toffees may have to look elsewhere this time.
"Everyone loved Landon," Neville told the Liverpool Echo. "We enjoyed having him here, and he used Everton running up to the World Cup to stay fit.
"I think that was the only reason he came, or maybe he would have come the year after."
However, the club captain is backing manager David Moyes to freshen up the squad next month.
"I think new signings would give everyone a boost. We need a lift - I think the whole club does in a way.
"We sold a couple of players late on in the last window and brought a couple of players in who are going to take time to bed in.
"I always think in January, particularly since I came to Everton, you can make a difference then.
"I remember we signed Jo a couple of years back and it gave everyone a lift. He scored a few goals, and it's good to see a new face around.
"The manager has done it every January; he has brought someone in. It might not be for money, it might be a free transfer, but he's brought someone in to pick us up."

    Giovani dos Santos: Sevilla target

    SEVILLA PLAN DOS SANTOS SWOOP

Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodriguez has hinted his club could make a second approach for Giovani dos Santos.
The Primera Liga outfit identified the Tottenham misfit as a top target over the summer, but were unable to reach an agreement.
The Mexican forward remains out of favour at White Hart Lane and is keen to secure a switch elsewhere.
A return to Spain could appeal to the 22-year-old former Barcelona man, with it imperative that he finds regular first-team football.
"We believe Giovani wants to leave Tottenham and that could be decisive," said Rodriguez.
"He was our first choice in the summer but Tottenham wanted too much money."

Nigel Doughty: Invested more in Forest

    DOUGHTY PUMPS MORE CASH IN

Nottingham Forest's annual accounts have revealed Nigel Doughty invested a further 11.4million in the club during the last financial year.
Doughty stepped down as chairman in October after 10 years in the job and Forest's accounts for the financial year ending May 31, 2011 show the club now owe him 75.6million.
The debt comprises of 64.2million of cash injected plus 11.4million of accumulated unpaid interest.
"As fans know, Mr Doughty left the club as chairman in October 2011, subsequent to the reporting date for these account, but he has committed to providing the club with funding to support the commitments to players made up to that time which effectively leaves the club with funding in place until May 2014,2 said finance director John Pelling.
"The total loss [of 11.4million] could only have been incurred with the continuing support of Mr Doughty, who last year injected 11.4million of cash into the club and took the amount owed by the club to him up to 75.6million. Mr Doughty's continued financial support is critical to the club obtaining an unqualified audit report with respect to its capacity to continue as a growing concern."
Doughty remains the sole secured creditor of the club after the final 1million balance owed to Nottingham City Council on the Trent End development was paid off.

    Liam Lawrence: Keen to stay

    LAWRENCE HOPES FOR POMPEY STAY

Liam Lawrence is keen to reach the end of the transfer window still a Portsmouth player.
The Pompey skipper has been linked with a move to join former manager Steve Cotterill at Nottingham Forest, with some reports even suggesting a deal has already been agreed.
But Lawrence hopes he will not be sacrified should the club be forced to cash in on their most saleable assets in January.
Lawrence told The News: "People are putting two and two together and getting five. There's nothing going on at the minute that I know about.
"You never know, I suppose. I might be one they might be looking to get out if the financial situation doesn't improve. Sometimes in football these things are taken out of your hands.
"But I'm settled, my family is with me and I love it down here. I would much rather stay but I just hope the club gets sorted."

Murray Davidson: Linked with Bristol City

    LOMAS KEEN TO KEEP DAVIDSON

St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas admits he does not want to lose Murray Davidson amid speculation the 23-year-old could move to Bristol City in the January transfer window.
Saints already rejected a 250,000 bid from Rangers in the summer and Lomas has since placed a 1million price tag on the midfielder.
And the 37-year-old, who took over from Derek McInnes at the Scottish club in November, believes another year at McDiarmid Park would be better for him.
Lomas said: ''We don't want to lose him and he knows how highly I rate him. I would like to see Murray stay here, getting better and better. I would love to be the manager who helps him to the next stage.
''I know he wants to play at the highest level but another year here could benefit him enormously in the longer term.
''I am delighted with Murray's performances after his return from injury. He has been awesome.
''I know the club rejected a bid from Rangers before the transfer deadline and it would have to be a very good offer to move him anywhere because Murray is under contract for another year beyond next summer."

    Cho Kwang-rae: Shown the door

    DEFEATS COST CHO HIS JOB
The Korean Football Association revealed poor results and concerns over South Korea's qualification for the 2014 World Cup led to the decision to sack coach Cho Kwang-rae.
Hwangbo Kwan, chairman of the KFA's technical committee - the body that oversees the national team - told a press conference in Seoul on Thursday that while the decision was not taken lightly, it was ultimately necessary.
Hwangbo, who resigned as FC Seoul boss earlier this year, pointed to a 3-0 friendly defeat against Japan in August and then November's shock 2-1 loss in Lebanon during qualification for the 2014 World Cup as the main reasons behind Cho's dismissal.
That defeat means South Korea needs a point against Kuwait in the final group game in February to be sure of a place in the final phase of qualification.
"I met coach Cho on the evening of the seventh and told him of the decision," said Hwangbo.
"After the defeat in Japan and then in Lebanon, we studied the problems in the national team closely and on the basis of those, we made the decision. We have studied the best way for Korean football to get through qualification for the World Cup."
Cho was 17 months into a three-year contract and was charged with taking the 2002 semi-finalists to an eighth successive World Cup. Qualification started well but the loss in Beirut led to severe criticism from fans and media.
Despite that, there was little indication that the KFA was preparing to make a change ahead of February's match with Kuwait.
Now Hwangbo is leading the search for a replacement.
"We will appoint a coach who knows Korea Republic football well within this month," he said.
Jeonbuk Motors' championship winning boss Choi Kang-hee, current Olympic coach Hong Myong-bo and Iranian Afshin Ghotbi, manager of J-league club Shimizu S-Pulse and former assistant coach with South Korea, have all been named as possible contenders but all three are yet to express an interest in the job.

    Raul: Not wanted by Jol

JOL NOT EYEING BERBATOV OR RAUL

Fulham manager Martin Jol has ruled out January moves for Dimitar Berbatov and Raul - as he believes in Mousa Dembele he has the better player.
With the transfer window reopening in less than a month, speculation has begun over reinforcements the Dutchman may bring to the club in January.
Marseille's Andre-Pierre Gignac has been heavily linked with a move to Fulham, while Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega and former Real Madrid man Raul have also been mentioned.
The latter would be a particularly audacious signing and Jol has quashed talk of a move for Spain's all-time record scorer, insisting Dembele can be just as good.
"It is not our philosophy [to make signings like Raul]," he said. "He is a star but I have another star in that position, who will probably be the same as Raul in the future. Mousa Dembele is on the way to becoming a fantastic player.
"Bryan Ruiz can also play there and we have a young player that can play in that position that you probably don't know in Kerim Frei. I have Pajtim Kasami, who is 19 years old, so I would probably be crazy to get another player in that position."
Jol also ruled out a move for Manchester United striker Berbatov, who he knows well having originally brought him to England while in charge of Tottenham.
"That is just paper talk," he said. "Dimitar Berbatov is at Man United and is quite happy. And if he moves I don't think it will be possible for our club to get him, you know?
"He is certainly a very good striker, he was very good for me, but it is just paper talk."
Fulham may face Berbatov's side in the latter stages of the Europa League after last night's Champions League exit at Basle.
The Cottagers face Odense next Wednesday night looking to make the knockout stages, where they would be in the draw alongside Manchester rivals United and City.
"I feel that they will be very disappointed, especially Manchester United," Jol said. "They were tipped probably to win the Champions League because they are capable of doing so, but that is football.
"They went there to Basle, who are a team that could surprise any other team. They are fighters.
"Manchester City did their job, got their win and hoping that Villarreal would get the points at home against Napoli. It didn't come off but, as I say, that is football."
On the Europa League, Jol added: "We are happy to play at that level and that is why we do it with strong teams.
"Other clubs will probably make different decisions and play other teams, like Tottenham did. Then you will probably get punished, but maybe they are fine with that situation because there is always an advantage.
"Even if you lose a game or get knocked out of the Europa League [there are advantages], but our principle is to do the best we can in Europe and get as far as possible."
Before attention turns to the Europa League, Fulham travel to Swansea in the Barclays Premier League this weekend.
Damien Duff and Chris Baird will miss the trip to the Liberty Stadium, while Steve Sidwell remains a doubt as he recovers from a hernia operation.
There is good news, though, concerning the fitness of Danny Murphy, who was expected to definitely miss the Swansea match after picking up an ankle knock against Liverpool on Monday.
"Danny is probably involved because he is a quick healer," Jol said. "He will have a test as well tomorrow.
"His ankle was swollen up but it is better now so I hope he can be involved. It's touch and go."
Long-term absentee Simon Davies may also be involved after stepping up his recovery from a knee injury.
"Simon played 70 minutes for the first time with the reserves and looked well," Jol added.
"He gave himself seven out of 10 fitness-wise so I will, if he is fine on Friday, involve him in the squad."

    Jermaine Jenas: Injury blow

    VILLA MAY FACE JENAS PAYMENT

Aston Villa face having to continue paying on-loan Jermaine Jenas' wages for the rest of the season despite the midfielder being ruled out for six months with an Achilles injury.
The Tottenham player underwent surgery on Wednesday night on the setback suffered during last weekend's home clash with Manchester United, Jenas' full debut for Villa.
He made only two other appearances as a substitute against Norwich and Swansea after his temporary switch from White Hart Lane in August.
But Villa boss Alex McLeish believes the agreement with Spurs will have to be honoured despite Jenas returning to his parent club.
McLeish said: "I think you do an agreement with a club and you take that on as far as the agreement goes (lasts).
"The club which takes him (a player) on loan has to fulfil that agreement.
"Jermaine will go back to Tottenham but we've still got an agreement with Tottenham."
McLeish had high hopes of Jenas providing the creating spark lacking in midfield.
But calf and Achilles setbacks restricted his appearances before the injury sustained during the first half against the Red Devils.
McLeish said: "Unfortunately his career never got started here at Villa and I really feel for Jermaine.
"He's not got his career kicked off at Villa. During the first day of training, he looked the real deal and I've not seen that since because of some niggles with his Achilles and calf.
"This latest injury is a hammer blow to him and the club.
"We tried everything to get him to a level of fitness and he had one problem after another so we are really gutted for the lad and he is now out for the rest of the season.
"It is pretty doubtful he will play for us again. The timescale is six months according to the specialists and it is tragic news for Jermaine."
McLeish admits he will have to spend carefully and wisely during January with only limited funds available.
He said: "It is about trading carefully. The club have made it clear their policy since the start of the season.
"We haven't changed in that policy. If we are going to bring in senior players, who I know give us the quality without any trial period, then we still have to look to trade a bit with care."
