BBC HD, on DirecTV
Juan Pablo Conti ©RapidTVNews | 14-12-2011 DirecTV Latin America will expand its high-definition programming line-up with a number of documentaries and fictional work distributed by BBC Worldwide.
The HD content, which will be shown Monday through Friday, 7pm to 9pm (Eastern Time, US), will be available to subscribers in Argentina, Chile, the Caribbean, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela and Uruguay.
The new BBC HD channel – not to be confused with its namesake in the UK, although most of the programmes will typically have been premiered there earlier – will have its two hours of daily programming slotted into the DirecTV HD (channel 1004) schedule.
The launch will be on Monday 19 December. Among the BBC productions that Latin American audiences will be treated to will be the documentary Wild China, The story of science: power, proof and passion, Ancient worlds and the Sherlock series. The new seasons of the Wallander and Survivors series will also feature on BBC HD via the DTH operator.
This weekend, DirecTV will broadcast two five-hour marathon previews (one on Saturday, one on Sunday) to showcase the kind of content that viewers will be able to expect. Available on channel 201, the marathon session will include an episode of popular motor TV show Top Gear.
