Six channels from Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) are to be delivered in high definition across the Middle East and North Africa thanks to a tie up between the state run broadcaster and UAE satellite operator YahLive.
HD versions of popular channels Dubai TV, Sama Dubai, Dubai One, Noor Dubai and Dubai Sport will be available free to air on the Y1a satellite at 52.5 degree East later this month.
“This partnership comes as part our commitment to offer our audience the highest quality by implementing the best international standards, and to strengthening our success in positioning DMI in the media industry, through executing best practices and carrying out top technology applications to deliver media content, that represent creative and meaningful television, while respecting social, cultural, and the Arab family values,” said Abdul Rehman Al Ali, head of the engineering department and information technology, DMI.
Mohamed Youssif, chief executive, YahLive, added: “I am delighted that DMI has joined forces with us to extend the audience reach of its HD channels. We will offer DMI with satellite based broadcast solutions that will bring highly targeted, reliable, effective coverage and high definition TV. YahLive will also have a dedicated service team to respond to changing requirements.
“The growing demand for HDTV programming by the region’s viewers means that the industry is at a tipping point and broadcasters know that they need to deliver their content to audiences in HD or be left behind.”
YahLive, which launched in 2011 as a partnership between the UAE’s Yahsat and the global satellite operator SES, only broadcasts in high definition, and so claims to offer all the extra transponder capacity required, and at competitive rates.
DMI added the new partnership with YahLive is in line with the Dubai Government’s “strategic approach in implementing highest quality standards in all sectors”. DMI recently became the first media organisation certified to the ISO in the Middle East.
