Hybrid devices on the rise in Germany

German industry association gfu expects a total of around 26.5 million screen devices with an internet connection to be sold in Germany by the end of 2011.
The majority will be smartphones with a share of 15 million units, followed by notebooks (7 million), hybrid TV sets (3.1 million) and tablet-PCs (1.4 million). More than one in three TV sets sold can now be hooked up to the internet with net access being almost standard on large-screen TV sets. In total, more than 4 million hybrid TV sets have so far been sold in Germany.
Consumers using the internet on the TV screen mainly use this feature to access entertainment content: 30% of all hybrid TV users watch free short videos, 18% watch movies, 15% access the "catch up" portals provided by TV broadcasters, 15% look up information and 15% listen to music from internet radio stations or online services.
