Etisalat to provide satellite uplink for YahLive broadcasters
Rebecca Hawkes ©RapidTVNews | 03-01-2012 UAE telecommunications operator Etisalat is to establish uplink services to YahLive's Y1A satellite which broadcasts in high definition (HD) across the Middle East and North Africa.
The satellite will be able to transmit the HD transmission of Emirati state channels from its orbital slot of 52.5 degrees east as a result of the new agreement.
"The national channels in HD are the key attracting element to our satellite, so it was extremely important that we could offer an uplink service to those... in addition to other channels based in UAE," said Mohamed Youssif, chief executive, YahLive.
"This partnership with Etisalat comes within our mandate to enhance our offerings and our outstanding TV broadcasting services. We are delighted that Etisalat has joined forces with us to extend the audience reach of its HD channels," he said.
Ali Amiri, executive vice president, carrier & wholesale services, Etisalat, added: "We very much value this collaboration with YahLive in using Etisalat's state of the art HD uplinking facilities which will further enrich our bouquet of services and broadcast offerings, while enabling broadcasters to extend their reach both in the UAE and in the region."
This is the latest in a string of recent deals for YahSat, a joint venture between the Mubdala Development Company-owned YahSat from the UAE and global satellite operator SES.
In November 2011 YahLive established a similar uplink partnership with Etisalat's rival Du, and in December the company announced it will now carry HD TV channels for MBC and Saudi Sports
