European cultural channel ARTE will offer its full programme as a livestream: Internet users in Germany and France will be able to receive the channel on its website free-of-charge from 7 January 2012.
The signal will also be available as part of ARTE's iPhone app to enable mobile reception. With the move, ARTE will become one of the first TV broadcasters to provide its complete 24 hour service as a free web-stream at

"Our target is to create as many bridges as possible between television and internet to reach the largest possible number of people interested in culture, independently of where they are currently located," ARTE president Véronique Cayla said in Strasbourg.
The livestream will complement the "catch up" service ARTE +7 through which viewers can watch programmes they missed on television up to seven days after their TV broadcast on the internet in full length free of charge.
