Outdoor Channel has expanded its high-definition footprint in all the top 25 markets in the US following its launch on Cox Communications Arizona, which serves Phoenix and Tucson.
The company calls the expansion a "significant milestone" for the service, which launched four years ago with a goal of providing 100% original HD content.
"Outdoor Channel will take the residents of Arizona from the arid deserts that they're used to, to the frigid temperatures of the north and across the world to exotic locations, all while never leaving their living room," said Randy Brown, executive vice president for affiliate sales and marketing for Outdoor Channel.
Outdoor Channel's programming now features expanded one-hour episodes of Wardens and Shooting Gallery presented by Crimson Trace, giving viewers a more in-depth look at two of the network's top shows. Among the eight shows premiering on Outdoor Channel is Gridiron Outdoors, which follows current and former famed football players, such as Jerome Felton, Scott Fujita and Alex Mack, as they go off the football field to tackle the challenges of the outdoors.
"Phoenix is one of the top ten most populated cities in the U.S. and we are thrilled that our industry-leading outdoor programming is now available not only to the Phoenix community, but also to residents of all of the top 25 media markets in the US," added Tom Hornish, COO of Outdoor Channel. "In 2012, we will continue to work with our key affiliate partners to further expand Outdoor Channel and Outdoor Channel HD's reach and expose the Outdoor Channel brand to new populations of avid fans with a passion for the outdoors."
He added that the channel has seen rapid growth in the last 30 months, adding more than eight million homes.
