German cable operator NetCologne is to add eight TV channels in high-definition to its cable network on 1 February 2012.
The new additions are the HD channels of Germany's two largest commercial broadcasting groups RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 as well as Nickelodeon HD/Comedy Central HD.
NetCologne will then offer a total of 35 HD channels. RTL will contribute RTL HD, RTL II HD and VOX HD to the line-up while ProSiebenSat.1 will provide Sat.1 HD, ProSieben HD, kabel eins HD and sixx HD.
In order to receive the new services, NetCologne customers will have to sign up to the package "Kabelanschluss Premium +HD" which will cost an additional €5.95 per month on top of the regular cable subscription. They also need a compatible HD receiver or a Conax CI+ module. Both devices can be rented from NetCologne as an option.
With the move, the cable operator serving households in Cologne, Bonn and Aachen will top its local competitor Unitymedia which currently only carries the HD channels from ProSiebenSat.1, but not from RTL.
