Germany's third-largest cable operator Kabel BW is to introduce a CI+ module. The device will enable customers owning a flat-screen TV set with an integrated digital cable tuner to receive the pay-TV packages provided by Kabel BW and Sky Deutschland directly through the TV set.
A separate set-top-box will not be required. The technical precondition is that the TV set is equipped with a CI+ interface.
Customers will be able to rent the module for €3.50 per month from 1 February with the minimum contract period being 24 months.
For technical reasons, the module will not grant acccess to video-on-demand (VOD) service Kabel BW Videothek, which offers movies and TV content by pressing a button on the remote control. This is only possible with the HD receivers and HD PVR boxes offered by Kabel BW.
