National US telco CenturyLink has upgraded its Prism IPTV service using Microsoft Mediaroom, giving subscribers an enhanced whole-home DVR experience.

Prism subscribers can now pause live TV from any room in the house, and can also rewind and fast forward up to the live broadcast point.
Other new enhancements include the use of the Last button on the remote now allows users to flip through the last five channels that they were watching; "Great for sports fans keeping up with multiple games," the company noted. Also, by selecting Enter on the remote, subscribers can add the channel they're watching to their 'favourites' list.
Using Mediaroom, the IPTV platform also will soon support additional applications including access to programming and content online, social media sites such as Facebook, an enhanced on-demand library and additional HD channels.
While CenturyLink is the No. 3 telco in the country after AT&T and Verizon, Prism TV is available in just eight markets to date: La Crosse, Wis.; Columbia and Jefferson City, Mo.; Orlando, Tallahassee and southwest Florida; Las Vegas; and central North Carolina. In all, it passes 1 million homes and has signed up 50,000 subscribers.
The company does expect to extend the service, including into a few of the Qwest markets it acquired last year when it took over that telecom company.
